The Generators

Understanding How Electric Generators Work

Generators can be a very beneficial addition to your emergency preparedness list. There are many types of generators and they all serve different purposes. There are diesel generators, gasoline generators, natural gas generators, and now bi-fuel generators that are an alternative to biodiesel. Below, l look at how each type of generator works and what you should know to properly install and operate a generator. One of the newer types of generators on the market is the natural gas standby generator.

This type of generator uses an internal combustion engine to create the fuel needed to continue operating while not connected to the electrical grid. It does this by utilizing an alternator to supply power to the generator and has an automatic transfer switch that allows the generator to start automatically once connected to the electrical grid. There is a battery backup if there is a power outage, but it is a small one and can easily be replaced.

The generator is also environmentally safe because most of them use a renewable energy source such as wood or biogas. The third type of generator that is available for consumers is the mechanical standby generator. Mechanical standby generators use an internal combustion engine to generate electricity instead of driving a mechanical alternator. These types of electrical generators use both electrical and mechanical fuel to drive their engines.

They do not require any type of fuel other than the ones that are stored in the engine. Because there is no fuel being used, they are extremely economical and are very convenient. If you want a solution that is extremely reliable and has an extremely long life span, then this type of generator is exactly what you are looking for.
